>> police tell me they're looking at a new phenomenon these days. robbers do not even wait for you to take the time to go through your pockets and pull out your wallet, they're going straight for the electronic devices. yesterday woman was on her ipad when she was mugged. >> every day we see robbery's and our department is trying to combat the problem >> the problem is the theft of electronic property. police say they gave chase after a trio of robbers took the woman's ipad and back pack at pete's coffee shop. as they sped away the suspects ran into several cars and motorcycles and even sideswiped one of our news vans. our photographer was shaken but not hurt. three others were hurt were the chase ended at a playground including this man who was

trapped in his car for a short while and a boy was hit by flying debris. all three face robbery and conspiracy charges and the driver faces us additional charges of speeding and drunken driving. this all comes in a city that prides itself in reducing crime >> what we're seeing is the robberies involving electronic devices >> so far this year police have reported more than 2000 robbery's >> of those, 1199 involved smart phones. that is quite an alarming number >> not to mention laptop and ipad >> that is right >> is that increasing from last year? >> i do not know if it has increased from last year, i just have the cell phones statistics. we see that when people do resist they become more violent

and they do attack victims. >> i'm told by employees that a woman came back here this morning. she said she got back for ipad. >> other bay area headlines, a man fleeing the oakland police crashed into a tree this morning and then ran and hid in a neighborhood. two local schools were put on lockdown until the man was found and arrested. >> the last standing occupy camp in san francisco has been taken down. officers moved in on the campsite that was on market street. they have been warned for weeks to clear out. dozens were arrested and released. campaign 2012 and the first votes for president are now being cast. iowa began early voting and the boaters to show up at county offices will be able to cast

it raises sales tax a quarter percent for the next four years and raises income tax on those making more than $250,000 annual for the next seven years >> proposition 30 is pretty simple. a temporary tax, the money goes into a fund that can only go to schools. >> a political expert says the governor can only guarantee that money will go to education this year because it is in the budget. >> after that it is harder to say, the money goes into the general fund and the governor and legislature despite what it will be spent on and it is hard to say what will happen in future years the proposition 38 as a pretty good job of walking away money for education so however much it brings in, most of that money will probably go to education >> while they are both temporary, proposition 30 taxes
